My Domestic Goddess Status – Just an Update

It is almost the end of April, and it has been just about a year since I quit my job in the Corporate arena!  My how time flies!!  I was crowned by my beloved Travel Man as the Domestic Goddess of our household shortly after I decided to stay at home for a while.  Little did I know how much I would love this title.  If you follow my stories you know I left my job a year ago to pursue other interests.  Here’s a link to my post from last April about my life change-Our Girls Vision Luncheon.

In the past year I have had the opportunity to spend time with my grandson, do lots and lots of baking, do a little bit of sewing ( I want to get more of this done soon!), start and finish some little home improvement projects,  take a few trips with Travel Man, try some new recipes, add to our list of family favorite recipes, read more books, and generally have the luxury to just come and go as I please.  This has all been so personally rewarding for me.  Getting to discover what I love to do again, and who knew that I had a passion for writing.  I always felt that I had some stories to tell that people would relate to, but I did not realize how much I would enjoy sharing them.

My Domestic Goddess title was given to me by my loving husband.  It is because of his encouragement and support that I am able to do what I want to do.  Thanks Travel Man for all that you do.

One of my biggest perils in my new-found title is getting side tracked when I am working on things around the house.  Does this happen to anyone else?  I have had a few discussions with my sister, who works from home, about this, and she tells me the same thing I am already feeling.  If you don’t stay focused on the task at hand you get sidetracked to some other task, and then you have to re-focus to get back to the task at hand.  Was that statement too confusing, it made my head spin just typing it.  That’s why I am really focusing on my lists everyday.  To stay away from the “side tracks”.

Also, I have had the good fortune to just pack my bags and take a few short trips with Travel Man.  We went to Reno to visit my parents, and last year I was able to take a long road trip with him from Franklin, Kentucky to home.  Lots and lots of fun being on the road with someone who travels for a living.

For awhile Travel Man’s days off were falling during the week, so our “weekends” would be happening on a Tuesday/Wednesday timeframe. No worries for us, we are just able to do what we want to when he is home. Sometimes at Disneyland, maybe out to dinner, a visit to the parentals, some time with the grandson, and hopefully a dinner together with the twenty-somethings.

This has been a great year of re-discovery for me.  A big hug and thank you to all of my family for your loving support and guidance.  I’m looking forward to more and more new discoveries in this next year, and hope to share the stories with each and every one of you.

Kreativ Blogger Award

A big huge thank you to Diane at Pleasant Valley Sunday.  She kindly nominated me for the Kreativ Blogger award today.  Diane left me a nice comment on my List-o-holic post today, which made my day so much brighter.  I enjoyed reading Diane’s stories about baseball.  That’s how I originally linked up with her blog.

I have been blogging regularly since last August, and am just giddy at receiving my first blogger award.

So in the spirit of the award here are 7 things you may find interesting about me:

1)   I just discovered how much I love writing in this past year.  So far it has been a pretty eye-opening experience for me.

2)  Chocolate is one of my best friends.

3)  Becoming a Grandma is one of life’s experiences that you can’t really explain in words to someone else.  You just having to experience it!

4)  I love trying out new recipes from Pioneer Womans’ website.

5)  There is no one word to describe how incredible it is to be able to help your parents with anything they need, when they have ALWAYS been there for you.

6)  Painting any room in my house is a hobby I love, love, love.

7)  I once won a trophy for a sewing demonstration.  It was a 4-H thing!

These are the top five blogs I enjoy following:

 1) Meg Travels– Meg has great pictures of her travel adventures, and I love reading her tips and tricks for great travel experiences.

2) Creative Noshing– Great variety of recipes, easy to follow, and wonderful pictures.

3) Grandma’s Briefs– Lisa’s intriguing stories of the Grandma life are very relatable, as I have one grandson, and another grandchild on the way.

4) The Suburban Cook– Kim has an amazing way of writing about her cooking, and intertwining her life happenings with her food experiences.

5) Joan on the Road – This is my Mom’s blog page.  My parents live in their RV fulltime, and my Mom has a wonderful way of drawing you into her stories.

Here are the rules for those nominated:

As I was looking at the stats for my blog this morning, yes I’m analytical like that, I discoverd I broke the 3,000 views marker.  I have been blogging and telling the world my stories since last August.  In that process I have discovered that I like to write, and tell my life stories.  It’s fun to share the life happenings around the Party House from the past and present.  My Mom keeps telling me, “Who knew you could write, and enjoy it?”

I found this quote from Hemingway that rather sums up my writing experience to date;

“It’s none of their business that you have to learn to write. Let them think you were born that way.”

So thank you to everyone who has been following my writings, and stories.  My plan is continue on my writing journey and expand it to share the stories of our family and our everyday experiences.  Wishing each and everyone of you a wonderful week.  May all your dreams come true.

10 Reasons why I couldn’t sell my iPad…

There are not many times in my parenting/adult life where I have treated myself to a gift.  However, in December 2010 I did.  There was this new-fangled gadget on the market called an iPad, and I just wanted one.  So, with my Christmas bonus from work I cautiously spent the money on my own iPad.  This purchase took quite a bit of convincing from Travel Man to complete. “You deserve it honey” and “You never do anything for yourself”, are the words from my husband that ring in my head.

When the iPad was new, I used it a lot at work and not so much at home. When I walked away from my job last year, and my status changed to Domestic Goddess I thought I would have used it more than I was.  So, the iPad was sitting on my desk collecting some dust, and I had this fleeting thought that maybe I should just sell it.  And then logic and reason set it in, along with some teasing from my family.

After spending a few months debating with myself and really paying attention to the use on my iPad I came up with this list:

10. Evan, my grandson, and I like to play checkers and tic-tac-toe on the iPad.  Where would we play our games on the go?

9.  When someone in the house says, “Google it”, where would we go to become informed?  The iPad is usually sitting right on the coffee table or kitchen counter for anyone to grab and look something up on the web.

8.   The DJ capabilities with iTunes, the iPad and the Remote app are amazing.  How would we play all that fine music at the Party House during family parties?   How would the assigned DJ skip to a new song right in the middle of one that’s already playing?

7. I love to play word games on the iPad.  How could I possibly keep up on all my games of Words with Friends, and Scrabble in a timely manner?

6. Amazon shopping is my favorite form of shopping, along with a Prime membership of course.  How could I check on my Gift Lists?  How would I get my Christmas shopping done?

5.  There is always some movie that I want to watch on Netflix, and I find using the iPad is the best way to dump movies into the  Netflix Instant Que.  How would I search for movies on Netflix, or reserve a movie on Redbox?

4.  The iPad has become a phenomenal tool for cooking.   The ability to view the recipes on-screen while preparing a meal, etc. is awesome.  How would I view all of the Pioneer Woman recipes that my family has grown to love?  Check out this cool iPad holder I got for Christmas from my hubby for using it while I cook.

3. I have learned to use WordPress to write posts to my blog in the last few months.  How would my blog posts get shared with the world at a moment’s notice? I can take it with me wherever I go.

2. I can essentially have a mini computer with me wherever I go.  When I am with Travel man on a mini-vacation I don’t have to wait to use his laptop.  I have my iPad.

1. The number one reason I couldn’t sell my iPad is that it is  the first time in my working career that I used a bonus to buy something just for me.

Thanks to my family members, particularly Travel Man, who have encouraged and teased me through this decision.  I will forever love my iPad.

Happy New Year to All of You

Happy New Year to all of my blog followers and newbies just reading about my life stories for the first time, and most importantly to my family and friends.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank my wonderful family and friends for their loving support as I dove into the blogging world this year.  It is has been so much fun for me discovering that I love to write and share my thoughts, dreams, and life stuff.

I am looking forward to continuing to share my life stories and experiences in the New Year, and putting together new ideas and information to share with everyone.

May you enjoy a wonderful New Year’s Eve with whoever you are celebrating with, and to the Super Six – stay safe.
